“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” – Neale Donald Walsch
If you’re looking for the ultimate thrill in adventure travel, look no further than hang gliding! Didn’t we all wish we could fly like birds when we were kids? Now you can. One large wing, and the two of you, or you by yourself, gliding through the air like a bird. Wow, the thrill of it.
Cost of Hang Gliding
First, let’s consider the cost of hang gliding. In general, to spend some time up in the air in a hang glider, with training, the equipment rental, and all other costs included, will be about $200 to $300 for your first experience, depending on where you are. This includes training on the ground, all the equipment (harness, helmet, etc), and a tandem ride with an experienced hang gliding instructor. You’ll be up in the air for around 20 minutes.
To learn to fly solo takes about a week, and costs about $1500 to $2200 total.
Where to Hang Glide
Now let’s talk about where you want to go hang gliding. Close to home, or somewhere romantic and far away? There are tons of opportunities for you to ‘get your hang gliding on.’

Let’s start out with a biggee. In Los Angeles, there are many places to go hang gliding, and many companies you can use to experience this miracle of flight. Of course, you want to go with one that is safe and reputable, and has been around for a long time, so you know you can trust them. Some of the best are Windsports Hang Gliding School, Cloud 9 Hang Gliding and Paragliding, and High Adventure Hang Gliding.

Hang Gliding at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
What about hang gliding at the world-famous venue of Kitty Hawk, site of man’s first winged flight? It was good then, and it is even better now, with all the flight schools, people, restaurants, history, and of course, the ideal flying conditions. The Kitty Hawk Kits Hang Gliding School calls itself the largest hang gliding school in the world. They have lessons for kids as well as adults of all ages.
